![]() He reinvented legal drama with Ally McBeal and The Practice, and then tackled high school in his new series, Boston Public. The flip side of the teen drama, Boston Public explores the personal and professional lives of a group of Boston educators and features Kelley's trademark blend of drama and comedy. So what's next on the horizon for Kelley? Iamlost.com brings you the exclusive scoop. We gave Mr. Kelley an open forum to talk about his latest project. Here's the exciting results! If what he says is any indication, we're in for a treat! David E. Kelley: Well, I think I've really covered a lot of the original material I wanted to cover, especially now that Boston Public is such a huge hit and Ally McBeal and the Practice are still strong contenders. I think people are happy with what I've created, they like my particular spin on professional life, be it that of lawyers, teachers, or whatever. Now, of course, every writer/director really has his dream job, and due to the success of my other series, Fox is finally letting me bring my true vision to the screen. I think all the network execs are really happy with the new pilot I've scripted for them, it's called Lincoln: 2525, and it's about Abraham Lincoln. Now, I know what you're saying, but don't worry, it's not just another history documentary, this is Abraham Lincoln in the year 2525, where humans live alongside alien opressors. Now, of course, Abraham Lincoln was brought through time as the greatest fighter for freedom that this country has ever known. Not a lot of people know that about Abraham Lincoln, that he was actually a down and dirty street fighter. We actually flew in seven Thai boxing champions from Thailand to ensure accuracy on Lincoln: 2525, and I think the public will really appreciate this. I hear you, I can tell you're saying, "But David E. Kelley, that's a preposterous plot! How can Abraham Lincoln face those aliens all by himself?" Well, of course, he can't. That's right, he's actually got a clone of himself, called Nabraham Lindoinhern, who fights alongside the real Lincoln, except he's a zombie with robotic implants! And he can turn other people into robotic zombies with his special 'Zombie Dance'! Let me tell you, you have never seen a musical extravaganza like this before. In the pilot episode alone, we have six Zombie Dances, and it just gets better and better. Of course, my series are known for their comedy as well as their drama, and that's why I've included Abraham's special animal friend, Bubbly, who is a squid, but a squid with the brain of a monkey. I've already contracted Carrot Top to do his voice, and you'd be amazed by the buzz this has generated around the studio. Vonda Sheppard reprises her role in this series as a songstress, always ready to lend a singing hand when needed... because that's all that's left of her! Her hands! Seeing as how it's 2525, the rest of her died a long time ago, but her hands were cryogenically frozen and then revived to fight alongside Abrham Lincoln. After being implanted with cloned mouths, of course. Lefty is voiced by Gilbert Gottfried and Righty is voiced by Vonda Sheppard herself, but playing a Korean robot dog baby. Rounding out our stellar cast is a can of peas. The 'Can of Peas' puppet is already being made for us by Jim Henson's Creature Shop, and this character, I think, brings the most depth and humanity to this project by acting as a mentor and guardian to the rest of the characters. I think Fox and the general public will really be entranced by this new series. We've actually got our marketing people working on a number of campaigns, and they've already come up with this amazing slogan: "In 2525, Abraham Lincoln says NO! To aliens." This sounds fantastic! I can't wait! Lincoln: 2525 debuts its premiere season this spring. |
